What Does Chipotle’s New Chicken al Pastor Taste Like?
The limited-edition menu option is sweet with a bit of a kick.

Chipotle is known for having a streamlined menu, including a limited number of protein options. But every so often the chain rolls out limited-edition proteins to shake things up a bit – from Garlic Guajillo to pollo asado, often to much excitement.
And now, the chain’s newest limited-time option is here, and it’s a big one. On Tuesday, March 14, Chipotle launches Chicken al Pastor. The new Chicken al Pastor is ideal for those who like their food both sweet and spicy. The offering is grilling chicken, seasoned with a marinade of adobo, seared morita peppers and ground achiote with a splash of pineapple. The chicken is finished with fresh lime and hand-chopped cilantro.
“Guests are looking to restaurants for unique menu items they cannot make at home, and al pastor has been gaining mass appeal in recent years,” says Chris Brandt, Chief Marketing Officer in a press release. “We’ve put our own spicy spin on al pastor with our freshly grilled chicken and have created a truly delicious menu item that fans will crave. It’s where fire meets flavor.”
Chipotle sent us an advance tasting of the new Chicken al Pastor, and it was delicious. The spice level had a minor kick (we’re always up for a bit more!), but easy to amp up with the addition of salsa. Spice aside, the chicken was loaded with flavor. The notes of lime and pineapple were apparent, and worked well in both a loaded burrito bowl and quesadilla.
Chipotle will be launching this new item with a $0 delivery fee on all Chicken al Pastor orders placed through the Chipotle app and Chipotle.com from March 16 through March 26 in the U.S., but in exciting news for global fans, Chicken Al Pastor will be available at worldwide locations, including restaurants in the U.S., Canada, U.K., France and Germany.
